Features: This book is a sub-project of the "21st Century Higher Education Teaching Reform Project" launched by the Ministry of Education in 2000: "Improvement of the Chemical Course System for Non-Chemical Engineering Majors in Engineering." The central idea of this book is to integrate the originally separate courses of Inorganic Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry into a single course to meet the needs of curriculum and teaching content reform in relevant engineering disciplines. The content framework of this textbook consists of three parts: Basic Theory, Elements and Compounds, and Expansion, totaling 22 chapters. The Basic Theory part is composed of three modules: (1) States and Structures of Matter—States of Matter, Atomic Structure, Molecular Structure, Crystal Structure, and Coordination Complex Structure; (2) Macroscopic Laws of Chemical Change—Thermodynamics, the Second Law, Electrochemistry, Reaction Rates and Mechanisms, Surface Phenomena, and Colloidal Dispersions; (3) Using Macroscopic Laws to Treat Equilibrium Systems—Chemical Equilibrium, Phase Equilibrium, Ionic Equilibrium, Redox Equilibrium, and Coordination Equilibrium, as well as the principles of routine chemical analysis based on equilibrium. The Elements and Compounds section discusses the connotations of chemical branches—Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Polymer Chemistry, and Physical Chemistry. The Expansion part includes content on modern analytical testing techniques, the relationship between chemistry and the environment, materials, information, energy, and life. This textbook can be used for "quasi-chemical" majors with more class hours (such as Explosives Engineering and Technology, with approximately 200 theoretical hours), non-chemical majors with more chemistry content (such as Environmental Science, Materials Science, and Metallurgy, with approximately 160 hours), as well as for geology, mineral processing, and oil exploration majors that originally only offered general chemistry and physical chemistry with fewer hours (approximately 120 hours). It can also serve as a reference for relevant technical professionals.
