Features: This book includes three parts: actual test questions with detailed solutions, key vocabulary and structures for the CET-4, and warm-up self-assessment exercises. The actual test questions and solutions section compiles 30 sets of tests from January 1989 to December 15, 2003, totaling 900 vocabulary and structure questions. The number following each question indicates its origin, such as 9606-56 for question 56 in the June 1996 test, and 0001-68 for question 68 in the January 2000 test. By solving these questions and reading the annotations, students can understand the characteristics and patterns of the questions, as well as familiarize themselves with the answering techniques. Since the National College English Test (CET-4) has been administered for 16 years, most grammar knowledge has been repeatedly tested in these actual questions. As long as students are good at summarizing and analyzing, achieving good results in future exams is not an unrealistic expectation. The vocabulary questions in the actual tests all feature high-frequency words, which are likely to appear in future tests. Therefore, the authors have provided detailed annotations for them. Similarly, the repetition rate of words tested in vocabulary questions has been increasing. In the two recent CET-4 tests (December 2003 and June 2004), 5 and 7 questions, respectively, tested words that had been previously examined. Without a doubt, most of the past vocabulary and structure questions are masterpieces created by experts after careful consideration, reflecting the intent of the test setters. By thoroughly studying these questions, students can achieve a deep understanding and work more efficiently. The key vocabulary and structures for the CET-4 section is divided into four parts: common prepositional phrases, common prepositional collocations, common phrasal verbs, and differentiation of similar words. It systematically organizes and summarizes the frequently tested points in the vocabulary and structure section of the CET-4. Students should memorize them cleverly according to the book's arrangement and strive to master them firmly, as this is the foundation for learning English well, performing well in the CET-4 vocabulary and structure questions, and passing the exam. The 15 warm-up self-assessment exercises cover a wide range of grammar and vocabulary knowledge and include the authors' predictions on the trends of question setting in this type of question over the past two years. They complement and enhance the 30 sets of full actual tests, forming an organic link. We hope that students will pay sufficient attention to these exercises and practice them diligently, achieving the ability to generalize from specific examples and apply knowledge flexibly. Solving CET-4 vocabulary and structure questions generally involves two steps: (1) quickly scan the four options and determine the focus of the question; (2) select the answer based on the relationship between the words before and after the blank and the missing word or structure. Additionally, when answering grammar structure questions involving verbs, pay special attention to the relationship between the verb and its logical subject. When solving vocabulary questions involving nouns, verbs, adjectives, etc., focus on the collocations between these words and prepositions or other types of words. Students can practice this solving technique repeatedly, whether working on the full actual tests or the warm-up self-assessment exercises in this book. For any language, vocabulary and structure are its two pillars. It is hard to imagine an English learner with limited vocabulary and unclear understanding of grammar structures excelling in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation. Therefore, the significance of this book goes beyond helping students excel in the CET-4 vocabulary and structure questions and achieve high scores. It undoubtedly has a tremendous positive impact on students' ability to complete other types of questions in the CET-4—such as reading comprehension and cloze tests—as well as on improving their overall English proficiency.
