Features: The male protagonist of the story, Heathcliff, is an orphan who is fortunate enough to be adopted by the owner of Wuthering Heights, Mr. Earnshaw. After Mr. Earnshaw's death, he suffers severe abuse and becomes a household slave. The daughter of the estate owner, Catherine, falls in love with him, bringing him a touch of warmth and hope in his hardship. However, after meeting Edgar Linton, a noble young man from Thrushcross Grange, she feels that although she deeply loves Heathcliff, marrying him would lower her status. Heathcliff overhears this contradictory confession and leaves in anger, disappearing without a trace. Catherine, heartbroken by her lover's departure, falls seriously ill and eventually marries Edgar. Years later, Heathcliff suddenly returns, behaving with the demeanor of a gentleman. Caught between her love for Heathcliff and her marriage to Edgar, Catherine becomes consumed by sorrow and dies of grief after parting ways with her lover. Although Heathcliff carries out a cruel revenge on his enemies, he cannot bear the eternal separation from Catherine and starves himself to death. From then on, on cold moonlit nights, a pair of restless souls wander the vast wilderness of Yorkshire.
