Features: It is widely recognized that the 21st century is an era of rapid development in information technology. As higher education institutions responsible for cultivating e-commerce and computer professionals, how to adapt to this development and train innovative talent that meets the needs of the times has become a hot topic in the fields of e-commerce and computer education in recent years. It is also a subject we have been thinking about and striving to explore for a long time. Textbooks are the foundation of talent cultivation. Under the initiative and commission of China Material Publishing House, we began discussing and planning to write a series of e-commerce and computer textbooks tailored to the needs of 21st-century talent cultivation in early 2001. Based on this, the publisher organized teachers from several business schools to jointly write this "E-commerce and Computer Series Textbooks," aiming to summarize our experiences and practices in teaching content and curriculum system reform, and to contribute to textbook development for the 21st century. We believe that the book "Network Design and Maintenance" has the following characteristics: 1. Combination of Fundamentals and Advanced Knowledge. Compared to other disciplines, one significant feature of computer science is the rapid update of knowledge content, which poses challenges to the selection of teaching content and the construction of curriculum knowledge structures. Based on the goal of higher education to achieve a dialectical unity of knowledge, ability, and quality, the writing of this book focuses on fundamental knowledge, basic skills, and basic methods. While improving students' theoretical literacy and their ability to analyze and solve problems, it also emphasizes introducing new technologies and methods to broaden their knowledge, stimulate their learning enthusiasm, and foster their innovative awareness. 2. Combination of Theory and Application. Theory is the expression of laws, and a strong theoretical foundation is the prerequisite for application. The purpose of mastering theory is application. This book emphasizes the systematic nature of theory, integrating theoretical depth with practical application by thoroughly explaining key knowledge. It pays particular attention to the teaching of experimental methods to cultivate students' ability to apply theory and technology. Additionally, carefully designed exercises are provided to strengthen practical and creative abilities. 3. Combination of Timeliness and Practicality. Efforts are made to streamline outdated knowledge points and add new ones, establishing the entire knowledge system on a "high" and "new" platform to reflect the contemporary characteristics of the book. However, it does not blindly pursue "high" and "new" without considering the teaching equipment and faculty conditions of general universities, focusing instead on the practicality of teaching and learning. We believe that textbook development cannot be achieved overnight and must continuously evolve with the development of disciplines, as well as changes in objective conditions and circumstances. We arrange teaching content according to the laws of human cognition, dividing or merging certain course materials to allow teachers to flexibly adapt to their needs.
