1. This book selects 1,444 Chinese characters as the main entries, using traditional (or variant) forms as the primary basis for the Four-Corner Code lookup.
2. The four-digit number above the main entry in the text is the Four-Corner Code, and the number in the upper left corner is the supplementary code. For multiple-character entries with the same code, only the first character is marked with the Four-Corner Code, while the others are marked with the supplementary code.
3. The characters below the main entry in the grid are in small seal script, while those below the small seal script are in bird-and-insect script. The numbers below the bird-and-insect script are the serial numbers of authors in modern times or the serial numbers of dynasties for selected characters. The order of authors is not fixed.
4. An index titled "Bird-and-Insect Script Selection: Dynasties and Author Serial Numbers" is compiled before the main text.
5. The "Stroke Lookup Table for Characters and Codes" lists the Four-Corner Code of the main text after each character. For ease of finding bird-and-insect script, both simplified and traditional (variant) forms are recorded in the table. Simplified characters are listed before traditional characters. For example, "long" () and "" (), whether searching for the simplified or traditional form, can locate the bird-and-insect script of "long."
6. To facilitate finding bird-and-insect script, a "Traditional, Simplified, and Variant Character Comparison Table" is compiled before the main text. This table is arranged in order of Four-Corner Code (from small to large). Knowing the simplified or variant form allows for quick retrieval of the traditional or variant form in the main text. For example, knowing the simplified character "sui," searching for the traditional character "" yields "22207 sui - 21253 sui." Similarly, the lookup method for the bird-and-insect script of "xi" is "32184 xi - 28868 xi."
