Features: The organic clay prepared by modifying clay with cationic surfactants exhibits strong adsorption capacity for nonpolar organic compounds. The organoclays, such as organoclays modified from montmorillonite using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide, demonstrate good stability and sedimentation properties with lower modification amounts, while also having minimal impact on biological activity. Organoclays can effectively adsorb organic pollutants in oily wastewater and treat phenol solutions. The organoclays used for adsorbing organic pollutants can be chemically regenerated by adding alkali or biologically regenerated using bottle-shaped yeast highly efficient in phenol degradation. The biological regeneration is more effective than chemical regeneration. In the joint treatment of organoclays and microorganisms, the parameter Kd, which is related to the modification amount of organoclays, plays a role. To improve the permeability of organoclays, they are immobilized, and the resulting immobilized organoclays can also effectively adsorb three-phase biological fluidized bed can effectively remove organic pollutants such as petroleum products. The three-phase biological fluidized bed in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region adds Pseudomonas putida capable of degrading terephthalic acid, which not only effectively treats terephthalic acid wastewater but also efficiently removes nitrogen. This book explores the joint treatment of organic pollutants using organoclays and microorganisms, studying the reuse of organic clays without altering their structure, taking a solid step toward the practical application of organic clays. The book can be used not only for the remediation of groundwater or surface water but also for wastewater treatment, opening up new fields for the application of organoclays in environmental protection.
