Publishing Date: 2004-07-01
Features: Genealogy is a historical record that systematically documents the bloodline relationships among members of a surname family, as well as other aspects, and is a book with profound cultural heritage. This book concentrates on showcasing genealogies held by the Hunan Library and some municipal, county archives, libraries, and individuals. Due to space limitations, only selected highlights can be revealed. It serves as a rich and hard-to-find source of data and information for humanities scholars conducting research in sociology, ethics, ethnology, folklore, talent studies, and demography; it also provides clues and assistance for people at home and abroad to understand Hunan genealogies and trace the origins of their surnames. The book includes 268 surnames used within Hunan, with 262 single-surname and 6 compound-surname entries. Under each surname, there are four sections: "Origin · Dialect Groups," "Hometown · Ancestral Halls," "Ancestral Hall couplets," and "Historical Figures," with the first and fourth sections being the main focus. The book is led by genealogies, and surnames without available genealogies are not reflected. The book is organized by surname as the main thread.
