Features: The book The Spirit of Chinese Literature is a compilation of Collected Essays on Chinese Literature and Continuation of Collected Essays on Chinese Literature. It comprehensively collects the literary research essays of Mr. Xu Fuguan. The entire book is organized in an anthology format, discussing the personal views and perspectives of the author on famous writers, works, and intellectual ideas in the history of Chinese literature from various historical periods and angles. The content of the book is extensive, covering all major figures and important classics in the history of thought and literature, where he offers his own unique insights rather than blindly following conventional views. From this book, we can understand the rigorous and solid academic style of the author, as his research is based on the examination, interpretation, and evaluation of primary sources. He has vision, insight, and firmly opposes opportunism, which holds particular significance in today's academic environment. Poetry is a product of emotions stirring within the heart. In my opinion, "gentleness and kindness" both refer to the emotions that flow into the poem. The poet channels his gentle and kind emotions into gentle and kind language and its rhythm, thereby forming the gentle and kind character of the poem. To achieve a more concrete grasp of this, the key lies in the word "gentleness." Not too cold, nor too hot—this is what "gentleness" means. When a poet is inspired by something to form a creative impulse, emotions are always intense. However, when emotions are like fire burning, they cannot produce a good poem. Poetry arises at an appropriate time after something has occurred. The so-called "appropriate time" refers to a distance that is neither too close nor too far. Too close, and the burning intensity prevents poetry from being created; too far, and the complete cooling loses the motivation to write poetry. Of course, here we are temporarily not considering the role of imagination before the creative process. The emotions at this "just right" distance are neither too hot nor too cold—this is the gentle emotion that serves as the foundation for creating poetry. At this moment, one can consciously or unconsciously reflect on the overly intense emotions, grasp one's feelings in reflection, and organize them. Poetry is thus created through the grasp and organization of emotions.
