Was Niugun "" (promoting himself)? Or was someone "" (promoting Niugun)? Why were good deeds and charitable actions in Mengcheng accompanied by criticism and slander? Were some sharp or even malicious criticisms the result of "judging a gentleman by petty standards"? Or was Niugun overly ambitious and originally a "hypocrite"? The "Niugun phenomenon" not only attracted the attention of numerous media outlets but also became a hot topic in society. Recently, rumors of Niugun's debts and resignation spread like wildfire. Since taking office as the Deputy County Governor of Mengcheng, Anhui Province, the famous xiangsheng (comic dialogue) artist has faced mixed public opinion. What did Niugun do in Mengcheng? What exactly did he accomplish? Was he governing or seeking fame? Was he gaining reputation or indirectly extracting benefits? Recently, Jiangsu Literature and Art Press released the report literature "Investigation on Niugun" by Anhui writer Gao Zhengwen, revealing a true Niugun. The book uses a wealth of facts to trace Niugun's journey from "ascending to office on a cow," to "passionate business recruitment," to "the opening of the Niugun School," and finally to the "naked donation controversy." The author obtained Niugun's consent to excerpt nine of his diaries, clearly reflecting Niugun's emotional journey since becoming the Deputy County Governor of Mengcheng. Much of the material in the book comes from officials and citizens in Mengcheng, including those who once collaborated with Niugun but later parted ways. Additionally, "Investigation on Niugun" dedicates significant to narrating the origin and development of the "Niugun Special Education School," authentically portraying Niugun's work in Mengcheng. Anhui writer Gao Zhengwen, with a military background, once risked his life to save a comrade in the army, becoming heroically disabled and serving as a member of the local disabled persons' federation. After the establishment of the "Niugun Special Education School," Gao Zhengwen, who felt a strong connection to Niugun, conceived the idea of writing a report literature about him. For this purpose, Gao Zhengwen traveled to Mengcheng 17 times and even to Beijing for in-depth research and interviews. His conclusion was that even though Niugun had many flaws and weaknesses, he remained a "cow" to the people of Mengcheng. Gao Zhengwen said, "I hope both those who support and oppose Niugun will read this book. I promise to the readers that the Niugun in this book will be comprehensive and authentic."
