Features: Gu Jiegang (1893–1980), a renowned historian from Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, proposed the concept of "Layered Construction of Ancient Chinese History" in the early 1920s. This idea sparked academic debates over the authenticity of ancient historical texts, giving rise to the "School of Investigating Ancient History" and establishing him as one of the founding figures of modern Chinese historiography. Simultaneously, he used folkloric materials to substantiate ancient history and pioneered research on ballads, stories, customs, and more, becoming a proponent of Chinese folklore studies. In the 1930s, he founded the Yu Gong Society and published the bimonthly journal Yu Gong, which nurtured an entire generation of scholars in Chinese historical geography. Gu Professor dedicated his life to scholarship, leaving behind a vast body of works that exerted extensive and significant influence on academic circles both domestically and internationally.
