Features: "Four Skills" is the highest level of English vocabulary learning. Currently, students' vocabulary memorization is limited to "word recognition." In simpler terms, it means that after seeing a word, the brain can reflect its basic meaning, which is helpful for reading (reading). However, the other three aspects—listening, speaking, and writing—are problematic. Many students struggle with word mastery because they cannot speak, do not understand spoken words, and cannot write (easily make spelling mistakes, let alone write full sentences). Remember, the most effective way to memorize words is to place them in a language environment that interests you and is valuable (good example sentences), engaging all your senses—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—to achieve the "Four Skills": listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This book is written under this guiding principle. To save everyone's time and energy, this book avoids a "one-size-fits-all" approach and categorizes vocabulary into two types:
Active Vocabulary: These words should be actively used. This book provides carefully selected example sentences (highlighted in green) and collocations.
Passive Vocabulary: These words only need to be mastered for their basic meanings. They can be read and understood in reading and listening contexts. In this book, only the word entries and definitions are listed for such words.
The example sentences in this book are worth memorizing. The sentences are vivid, up-to-date, and closely related to students' lives, making them perfect for memorization and achieving the "Four Skills." In fact, the example sentences in this book are unparalleled.
The problems of Chinese students' writing can be solved when memorizing words. Chinese students often make many vocabulary and grammar mistakes when writing essays. "Full of vocabulary and grammar errors" is the overall impression that examiners have of the average English writing level of candidates nationwide. The fundamental reason why candidates easily make writing mistakes is that the texts in textbooks rarely contain sentences that can be directly moved into or slightly modified for use in essays. As a result, writing relies on (creating sentences on the spot based on the grammar they have learned), leading to "artificially created complications," and English essays become a source of stress for students. If you choose this book from the beginning when memorizing words and thoroughly memorize the more than 2,000 example sentences in it, you can lay a solid foundation for writing.
