Features: Xu Jinglei's directorial debut, a 2004 family holiday film. This is a film that tells the story of a father-daughter relationship, recording little moments of emotion amidst seemingly ordinary life. The protagonist, Xiaoyu, lost her mother in a car accident years ago, and her father, Lao Yu—a stranger to her—reenters her life after not seeing each other for over a decade. They rely on each other, yet are forced to part. From initial strangeness to eventual mutual dependence, the years they spend together make both of them feel love and the helplessness of life. That love is unconditional, and that responsibility is irremovable. There are people you must accept, for better or worse, especially when their traces are impossible to erase from your life. It is this love and responsibility that make up the entire pain and happiness of Xiaoyu and Lao Yu's life. In the end of the story, the father passes away. At his grave, Xiaoyu, in her arms, holds a babbling child who has truly grown up.
