Features: This book is a selection of short stories from Harvest in 2003, featuring two short stories and six medium-length stories. In Mo Yan's The Carpenter and the Dog, through a "legend" that is constantly rewritten in this lonely village, the story tells of the irreplaceable dignity of the "weak." In Chi Zijian's One Horse, Two People, an elderly couple with a bleak late life and their companion horse together depict the sorrow, tenderness, and vicissitudes of life at the grassroots. Tang Ying's A Journey in an Instant tells the story of Chu Hong, who has experienced numerous tragedies while living abroad. This is not just a story of a "one-night stand of the soul," but also a process of drifting and returning "on the road." Lao Mao's I Can't Sleep draws the men and women of a building into a turbulent fate vortex through a murder case, where the end of one murder is the beginning of another. In Xu Yiwa's The Pale Green Moon, the cracks behind life slowly open, and Jiezi refuses to turn away. This leads to the gradual destruction of an upright husband's image and the fading of passionate sparks. Zhang Li's The Sheep writes about the love between two generations of American missionaries and a Chinese woman of good standing, who cross paths. Despite a 50-year gap in time, the process and outcome are astonishingly similar. Han Xiaozheng's The Beautiful Vessel portrays the unwavering obsession of the performance artist Song Yin, whose inner confusion, contradictions, and sharpness are undeniably exposed in her life. Di An's Sister's Jungle depicts the sharp pain and sorrow of youth, the profound understanding of the adult world, and the intertwining joys and sorrows of two emotions.
