Features: Qi Gong, styled Zi Bo, also known as Yuan Bai, was born in Beijing in July 1912. His family fell into decline in his childhood, and he attended primary school but did not complete middle school. He studied classical Chinese literature, poetry, and prose under the guidance of Mr. Dai Suizhi, and later learned painting from Mr. Jia Yimin and Mr. Wu Jingting. He was further instructed by Mr. Chen Yuan'an, gaining expertise in academic traditions and textual research. Initially, he served as a Chinese teacher at Fu Ren High School and later became a lecturer and associate professor at Fu Ren University. After the reorganization of academic institutions following the liberation, Fu University merged with Beijing Normal University to form a new Beijing Normal University, where he continued as an associate professor and professor. Currently, he is a professor and doctoral supervisor at Beijing Normal University. He also holds the positions of Director of the Appraisal Committee of the National Cultural Relics Administration, Advisor to the Planning Group for Perception and Arrangement, and Standing Committee Member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. He has previously served as Advisor to the Palace Museum, Advisor to the History Museum, and Director of the Central Research Institute of Chinese Literature. He also served as Vice Chairman of the Beijing Municipal Commission for Ethnic Affairs, Standing Committee Member of the Buddhist Association, and Chairman of the China calligraphy Association, becoming Honorary Chairman after his term. Qi Gong has been teaching classical literature at the university since his time, and his papers on classical literature have been published in academic works. As his teaching field is Chinese literature and language, he has conducted research and written books on the Chinese language. He has also studied the evolution of Chinese characters and the theory of calligraphy, publishing books on these subjects.
