Features: The Border Town was originally published in 11 installments from January 1 to 21, 1934, and March 12 to April 23, 1934, in Guowen Weekly (Volume 11, Issues 1–4, 10–16). Signed Shen Congwen. It was first published by Shanghai Shenghuo Bookstore in October 1934. In September 1943, Kaiping Bookstore published a revised edition. The original titles were consistently Preface and The Border Town. On the first edition sample copies published by Shanghai Shenghuo Bookstore, the author wrote the following note: "Keep this copy as a sample. When the complete collection is printed, use the Kaiping edition and attach this new preface. Congwen" This note has now been included in the present collection based on the revised edition by Kaiping Bookstore.
