Features: To facilitate the study of ancient Chinese and the consultation of classical texts for a broad readership, we have compiled this "New Common Characters Dictionary of Ancient Chinese." This dictionary is fully aligned with the newly revised secondary school Chinese language textbooks, making it an ideal reference tool for secondary school students and readers with intermediate cultural literacy. The dictionary includes nearly 10,000 single characters (including traditional characters and variant characters) and uses color coding to distinguish between less commonly used characters. It was compiled based on the "Teaching Syllabus for Compulsory Education Full-Time Secondary Schools in the People's Republic of China," the "National Common Language and Characters Law of the People's Republic of China," the "Hanyu Pinyin Scheme," the "General Table of Simplified Characters," the "Comprehensive List of Standardized Variant Characters," and the "Draft Comprehensive List of 264 Groups of Variant Characters." The dictionary has the following features:
1. For each character, it lists its traditional and variant forms as much as possible to help readers fully understand the ancient writing rules of modern Chinese characters.
2. It provides detailed ancient Chinese definitions for each character, with part-of-speech annotations for some definitions, ensuring comprehensive and rich content to enhance the success rate of readers' consultations.
3. Example sentences are primarily drawn from classical Chinese passages in current secondary school Chinese textbooks, supplemented by famous lines from classical Chinese texts, to help readers understand and master each definition of the character through familiar phrases.
4. The appendix includes common classical Chinese grammar rules to assist readers in better learning classical Chinese.
