Features: Under the backdrop of globalization, national and regional competition has been intensifying, and the level of competitiveness primarily depends on the extent of innovation capabilities. Many studies have shown that innovation often arises from the interaction within clusters of enterprises at the national or regional level, but the mechanisms of innovation are complex and have become a research hotspot in international academia. In recent years, although domestic academia has gradually expanded its research on innovation, the depth of research remains insufficient, particularly in the area of enhancing the innovation capabilities of enterprise clusters to achieve regional development. This book is the final research outcome of Professor Wang Jicai of Peking University's National Natural Science Foundation project on "The Theory of New Industrial Regions and Its Application in China," as well as a partial result of the Management Sciences Division project on "The Competitiveness of Township Enterprise Clusters in China." It also continues and elevates her previous National Natural Science Foundation project on "The Development and Layout of High-Tech Industrial Development Zones in China." Based on an in-depth study of the latest theories both domestically and internationally, the book analyzes the most typical regional cases abroad (such as Silicon Valley in the United States, Third Italy, and the Tiruppur region in India), and conducts detailed field research on representative regions in China's traditional industrial zones, emerging industrial areas, and knowledge-intensive regions. On this foundation, it strives to explore the practical application value of the theory of new industrial regions in China. Through theoretical reviews and case analyses, the book endeavors to comprehensively and profoundly identify public policy changes related to regional and national competitiveness, hoping to advance research progress in this interdisciplinary field in China and contribute to more scientific regional industrial policies. It is expected that more scholars from various fields, including management, economics, and sociology, will engage in research on this topic, and that more geographers will join this field to conduct in-depth research and discussions from different perspectives.
