Microsurgical Neurosurgery, Vol. 4, Part IIIA

Author: M. G. Yasargil
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2002-10-01
Features: This volume introduces the relevant knowledge of AVM surgery and the surgical techniques commonly used by the author for reference by readers. This book is not a systematic literature review of AVM. Although much of the material is derived from the discoveries and theories of others, some new content is also included. From a developmental perspective, the implementation of any new surgical procedure typically requires a detailed study of related embryology, anatomy, physiology, and anesthesia. The specific needs of surgeons will prompt the emergence of new research methods. Neurosurgery is no exception. In its early stages, a general understanding of overall anatomy, as well as the relationships and physiological functions of nerve fiber bundles, cranial nerves, and cortical structures, is necessary. Under the limited surgical conditions of that time—such as instruments, anesthesia, and lighting—the surgery was made relatively safe.
