Features: In a narrow sense, it refers to decorative patterns and colors on objects. The circular patterns in this book belong to the narrow sense of patterns, which are decorative designs within a circle. A circle is the path traced by a moving point on a plane at a fixed distance from a fixed center. Ancients considered the circle to be a symbol of the sky, and it also carries the meanings of fullness, plumpness, and completeness. Therefore, people are fond of drawing patterns within circles. A typical example is the decoration found on bronze mirrors, ancient coins, tiles, coffered ceilings, and various other objects. Many of these are classic works with significant artistic value, serving as models for later generations in creating circular patterns. They are a very brilliant part of traditional patterns.
Like other patterns, graphic patterns must adhere to the common principles of composition, form, and techniques in pattern design to achieve both aesthetic appeal and practicality. The difference lies in that circular patterns are constructed within the suitable shape of a circle. This book selects a portion of circular patterns designed by the author and Ban Heng over the years. This is done, on one hand, to contribute to the flourishing of the pattern art industry, and on the other, to offer a reference for peers in the art and craft industry.
