Features: In my memory, Hu Shih had reached the age of 75. In the spring of 1999, I had the opportunity to lead a delegation of mainland writers to Taiwan for cultural exchange, which gave me a dreamlike feeling. Upon arriving in Taiwan, most of the familiar predecessors, classmates, and relatives I had known fifty years ago were already gone, and those I was fortunate enough to meet were already gray-haired. Naturally, it evoked some reflections. My old classmate Lady Zong Zhizhen, the sister of the renowned Peking University professor Zong Baihua, gave me a "gift" – an article titled "Visiting Dr. Hu Shih" that I had written in March 1948 and published in Taiwan's Shengxin Daily. This old work had long been lost, and seeing it once again naturally brought back those precious memories. Dr. Hu Shih is an "objective existence" in the history of Chinese culture. Scholars studying the history of Chinese culture and literature would not fail to research him. I feel that even if the article mentions only a little about him, it still holds its own value.
