Publish Date: 2004-02-01
Features: China in modern times encountered a historic turning point, and as an important consequence, 20th-century Chinese literature has an anxious temperament, tinged with melancholy and somber hues. To a certain extent, the literature of this era is the soul history of a nation. In the history of Chinese and world literature, few centuries of literature have such a strong sense of trauma and such intense inner debates. It cannot, nor does it wish to, distance itself from the hardships of history and reality for scrutiny, thus failing to maintain the elegance and refinement required by the concept of classic literature. This book aims to provide a quick and efficient pathway for general readers to access 20th-century Chinese literature, enabling those who are constrained by various conditions and lack the time to read literary works to appreciate the artistic charm of literary classics at the fastest speed, thereby enhancing their taste and spiritual realm. It must be pointed out that this book is merely a key to guide readers into the world of literature and cannot replace readers in independently stepping inside to glimpse the inner workings, just as a recipe cannot replace a fine meal or a map cannot replace the actual experience of exploring scenic wonders. The reading of 20th-century Chinese literature truly begins only at the end of this book.
