The Chinese nation is renowned for its long history and splendid culture. In the realm of history, two distinctive features set Chinese history apart from that of other nations: an unbroken five-thousand-year civilization and an immense repository of historical records. This enduring civilization reflects the Chinese people's strong cohesion and vibrant vitality, serving as the solid foundation for their resilience through trials and their inevitable revival. The vast historical literature—from the monumental works such as Records of the Grand Historian (Shiji), Comprehensive Mirror to Aid in Government (Zizhi Tongjian), and the Twenty-Four Histories to the countless unofficial histories, notes, romances, and tales—fully demonstrates the Chinese people's deep reverence and love for their national history. It is this rich historical legacy that has earned the Chinese nation the esteemed title of "a nation of history" in the world.
