Features: There are two factors that determine the basic morphological characteristics of the head: one is volume, where we imagine the head as a rectangle or an oval, which is a general factor; the other is the structural factor brought by the skull. Whether it is square or oval, the line of light and shadow is the most important factor that gives these shapes a sense of three-dimensionality. In the human head, the line of light and shadow also plays the role of expressing three-dimensionality. However, due to the complexity of the head's shape, the expression of the line of light and shadow must be linked to the structural relationship of the head and the content of its inner contours. The shapes of the bony points and the basic shapes of large masses must all be reflected in the line of light and shadow. On the opposite side of the line of light and shadow, it is often the contour line of the face or the of the shapes in the illuminated areas. Whether it is a contour line or a shape's, like the line of light and shadow, it also contains structural and anatomical content. In short-term portrait sketches, the tonalities should be simplified as much as possible to make the main subject stand out. The main subject includes the morphological characteristics of the person, and from the beginning of the painting, the focus should be on this main subject. In the final refinement stage, the features and major shapes of the face should be emphasized, some details simplified, and the character's image conveyed.
