Features: The plays included in this collection are not only masterpieces of translation by Mr. Ying Ruocheng himself but also represent the highest level of Chinese theater translation. The Case of the Uproar in Court combines the unrhymed verse of the nobility with the humorous and playful language of the lower classes, creating a blend of solemnity and wit that reflects the spirit of the times. It stands out as a unique example among Shakespeare's translated works. Death of a Salesman preserves the charm of the original by focusing on the characters' background as small-town New Yorkers from Brooklyn, using the heavily Beijing-influenced Tianqian dialect as a basis. This highlights their living environment and material circumstances, giving the language a vivid, lifelike quality that earned the full appreciation of the playwright, Arthur Miller, and became the only Chinese translation with the right to perform the play globally. As for The Favorite of the Gods, the translation is even more challenging. However, the playwright's academic background, Mozart's immense fame, and the play's strong religious themes allowed Ying Ruocheng to showcase his translation talent on a broader stage. The stark contrast between poetic and vulgar elements in the translation not only reflects the original's style but also adds dynamism and depth to the performance, filling it with artistic tension and distinct personality. Mutiny gained widespread attention for its witty language and tight plot. With no female characters and no scene changes, language becomes the sole important performance medium. Ying's translation is concise, accurate, and rhythmic, laying a solid foundation for this successful "talk-based" play. Major Barbara is one of Shaw's famous plays renowned for its clever wit. Ying's translation is playful and lively, capturing the spirit of the original, often drawing laughter from the audience during performances.
