Features: The importance of mental health is increasingly recognized by people, making mental health education a crucial component of school education. As early as 1994, the "Several Opinions of the CPC Central Committee on Further Strengthening and Improving School Moral Education Work" explicitly stated that "mental health education should be guided for students of different age groups through various methods to help them improve their psychological qualities, develop sound personalities, and enhance their ability to endure setbacks and adapt to the environment." Early childhood mental health education is a vital stage in life education, and the saying "mental health starts from infancy" reflects this principle. Because the early childhood stage is a critical period for children's language and cognitive development, as well as a significant phase for their personality, emotions, will, and social behavior development. The activities of early childhood mental health education are primarily implemented by early childhood teachers and parents. For many years, Beijing Institute of Education has been dedicated to the academic and continuing education of kindergarten teachers, offering a course titled "Early Childhood Mental Health Education" in its associate degree program for early childhood art. The author has taught this course multiple times, and this book was refined and perfected based on lecture notes.
Chapter 1 covers the fundamental issues of mental health, introducing basic knowledge of mental health while explaining the significance, standards, principles, and strategies of early childhood mental health education.
Chapter 2 focuses on the psychological characteristics of young children, discussing them from both cognitive and personality perspectives.
Chapter 3 addresses common psychological issues in young children, classifying them and explaining each problem in terms of manifestations, causes, and interventions. The chapter concludes with case analyses of these classifications and offers suggestions for parents.
Chapter 4 covers the curriculum design for early childhood mental health education, including guiding principles, approaches, processes, and main content.
Chapter 5 discusses the measurement and evaluation of early childhood mental health education and introduces the application of some early childhood mental health assessments.
During the writing process of this book, we referred to numerous works and textbooks and incorporated many relevant research findings. Due to space constraints, we could not list them all here, and we express our gratitude for this. This book can serve as a training textbook for early childhood teachers, as well as a reference and teaching guide for parents and early childhood educators.
