Features: This book can be used as a learning resource for senior undergraduate and graduate students in environmental-related fields, as well as a reference for environmental science and engineering professionals. The content is divided into two parts. Part 1 includes the first four chapters, primarily focusing on introducing the fundamental knowledge related to environmental information systems, mostly theoretical in nature, serving as the foundational section. Part 2 consists of the last two chapters, which explore the applications of two major types of environmental information systems. The content is organized around successful application cases in recent years, forming the applied section. This part incorporates extensive excerpts from research literature over the past decade and highlights new research findings from the School of Environmental Science and Engineering at Guangdong University of Technology. The specific chapter content is as follows: Chapter 1, Overview, introduces the basic concepts of "environmental information systems," provides a clear definition of environmental information systems, and briefly explains their development, related disciplines, and research content. Chapter 2, Database, focuses on relational databases and their structured query language (SQL). Chapter 3, Geographic Information System, covers spatial data structures and the principles of spatial analysis functions. Chapter 4, Main Data Sources of Environmental Information Systems, discusses the principles of remote sensing and remote sensing digital image processing, with an introduction to the Global Positioning System. Chapter 5, Management Information System Based on Relational Database, introduces the principles and applications of environmental management information systems, along with multiple successful application cases. Chapter 6, Environmental Geographic Information System, presents environmental geographic information systems that integrate environmental simulation with geographic information systems, analyzing the development techniques and principles of environmental geographic information systems through several case studies.
