Features: This book comprehensively introduces new technologies and cutting-edge research on wastewater treatment both domestically and internationally. The book is divided into seven chapters. It is suitable for researchers and engineering technicians in environmental science, environmental engineering, water supply and drainage, and other related fields. It is also appropriate as a graduate textbook and teaching reference for environmental majors in colleges and universities. It also holds good reference value for environmental and other management, decision-making, and professional personnel.
Chapter 6: Advanced Oxidation Technologies in Water Treatment
Section 6.1: Wet Air Oxidation
1. Overview
With the rapid development of industry, the discharge of industrial wastewater has been increasing year by year, and most of it is characterized by high organic concentrations, poor biodegradability, or even biotoxicity. Both domestically and internationally, comprehensive treatment of such high-concentration, refractory organic wastewater has been given high priority. Currently, some wastewater with simple compositions, slightly better biodegradability, and lower concentrations can be treated through the combination of traditional processes. However, the treatment of high-concentration, biologically refractory wastewater faces significant technical and economic challenges. Wet oxidation is an effective and novel treatment technology developed to address this issue.
