Features: Newly Compiled University Russian for Undergraduates is a textbook series designed for non-Russian major undergraduate students in higher education institutions. The series consists of 4 volumes and can be used for Russian language teaching in the foundational stage (280 hours) for both humanities and science majors. Volumes I and II are intended for the first and second semesters of the first academic year, while Volumes III and IV are for the third and fourth semesters of the second academic year. This textbook was compiled in accordance with the requirements of the Revised Teaching Syllabus for University Russian, issued in June 2001. It primarily aims to cultivate students' reading comprehension skills while also developing their listening, speaking, writing, and translation abilities. It helps students master effective language learning methods, build a solid language foundation, and enables them to use Russian as a communication tool to acquire professional information. Each volume contains 12 lessons (including 2 review lessons). Each lesson includes a main text, text notes, a vocabulary list, a phrase list, explanations of active vocabulary, after-lesson exercises, grammar explanations, and grammar exercises. The main text (Tekst I) is for intensive reading in the classroom, while the supplementary text (Tekst II) is designed to complement the main text. It can be used either for in-class instruction or assigned as homework for students to complete and review in class, with their understanding checked. The purpose is to reinforce the content of the main text, expand vocabulary and reading volume. The selection of material for Tekst II is carefully chosen to maintain a certain connection with Tekst I in terms of themes, genres, vocabulary, and grammatical phenomena. After each main text (Tekst I), there are explanations of active vocabulary. The selected words are common, polysemous, and relatively difficult-to-master verbs from Tekst I. Exercises related to these key words are provided in the after-lesson exercises, and they are repeated in subsequent lessons to ensure students can actually grasp and use them in verbal communication. The grammar content of this book is determined based on the revised syllabus and the existing grammatical knowledge structure and proficiency level of students before they enter university. The goal is to consolidate grammar knowledge learned in high school while expanding and deeply explaining the content that should be mastered in university. The grammar explanations are concise and to the point, with short examples that clearly illustrate the concepts. Efforts are made to use charts and tables to systematize complex grammatical phenomena, making them easier for students to grasp. All grammar topics in the book are arranged according to the syllabus requirements. During compilation, both the requirements of grammar teaching itself and its coordination with grammatical phenomena in the texts were considered. The exercises in the text and grammar sections focus on training verbal skills, with diverse and abundant forms, allowing teachers to select as needed. The vocabulary starting point of this book is the 1,630 words listed in the Vocabulary List for the National Unified Examination for Higher Education Entrance (Russian), which is attached to the syllabus (see the total vocabulary list at the end of Volume I for review and reference). Based on this list, the vocabulary for each text is determined. In addition to the vocabulary list for each text, a total vocabulary list for each volume is provided at the end of the book for review and reference.
