Features: American novelist Walter Williams said: "Among Hemingway's numerous works, The Rich and the Poor is an 'unquestionably superior work... It is vivid and powerful, full of passionate language, a strong tragic structure, and characters are portrayed with great authenticity. Moreover, the author reflects in the book the stirring views he had about the economic and political realities of the time from the bottom of his heart.' This book is divided into three parts: Spring, Autumn, and Winter, vividly depicting the failed life of Harry Morgan, an 'individualist.' In Spring, Morgan runs a business renting fishing boats and, out of desperation, transports 'live cargo' (illegal immigrants) for others, even risking his life to break the law to protect himself, getting involved in a murder trial. In Autumn, Morgan engages in the smuggling of alcoholic beverages, living a life on the edge ('adding blood to the knife'); by Winter, Morgan has been reduced to his last ditch, resorting to any means to make money, even agreeing to transport a group of Cuban bank robbers back to Cuba. Although he eliminates the gang of terrorists on his yacht, he himself is shot and unfortunately dies."
