We often lose ourselves in the modern hustle and bustle, but learning from the wisdom of the sages is a shortcut to finding direction in life. Each piece of classic and elegant literature is imbued with the philosophy of our ancestors, inspiring us to peer into the twists and turns of life. Venturing into the vast treasure trove of ancient cultural and artistic riches, we often discover a string of shining treasures scattered everywhere—these are the small stories left behind by the ancients. The occurrence of these small stories could be fables, diplomatic negotiations, advising and clarifying doubts, intimate conversations, or discourses on. In terms of temporal and spatial concepts, they range from the Yao and Shun dynasties to the Ming and Qing dynasties, across all regions and beyond. These textual fragments are not only profound in life philosophy but also humorous in daily, mostly concise, vivid, and rich in emotion and logic, making them delightful to read and offering profound insights that resonate long after. This book selects materials from classics and historical records, as well as from legends and notes, with multifaceted perspectives. For each story, the original text is presented first, followed by an interpretive translation, interspersed with the commendable words of renowned figures from China and abroad to explain the essence of the stories and explore different cultural value domains. Reading each story brings a sense of spiritual refreshment, awe, or caution, all of which inspire us with more wisdom in handling life's experiences.
