Features: This book is not a guide to object-oriented development, nor does it teach you how to write programs using a specific object-oriented language. It does not mention mysterious algorithms, radically innovative development processes, or new methods for modeling object-oriented design. In fact, we have simply organized the situations encountered in daily object-oriented framework development into the form of patterns. Our development activities cover the range from initial requirement collection to framework documentation creation. We have also devoted some effort to the human aspects of development—how to coordinate interactions between different types of personnel to ensure they collaborate effectively and develop successful frameworks. Finally, we briefly describe how to use the framework to develop applications. This book organizes the situations encountered in daily object-oriented framework development into the form of patterns. Its development activities cover the range from initial requirement collection to framework documentation creation. The book consists of 10 chapters, with the first chapter describing what a framework is and how to develop and use frameworks. The second chapter provides a general domain and the vocabulary within it, allowing readers to propose domain-specific questions and spark thoughts about patterns. The following chapters from the third to the ninth are organized into related pattern topic introductions based on their primary uses. Finally, we briefly describe how to use the framework to develop applications. Appendix A describes the complementary relationship between components and frameworks. Appendix B describes the development process used in the IBMSanFrancisco project for business application framework development. This book is an excellent resource on software development, suitable for software developers, project managers, and as a reference for researchers in related fields.
