Features: In recent ten years or more, China has been experiencing population aging. By 2000, China had entered a senior-aged country. As China has the largest elderly population in the world, the elderly group exhibits different physiological, psychological, and social characteristics and needs compared to adults and young people. Elderly care also has its own specialities, which places important tasks on the nursing profession. Elderly care should be included in nursing professional curricula to meet the objective demand for elderly care work. Therefore, this textbook was compiled. This book is divided into 3 chapters and several sections. Chapter 1: The Elderly Group, this chapter provides a detailed description of the biological, psychological, and sociodemographic characteristics of the elderly group, as well as related health care content. Chapter 2: Elderly Care, building on the initial understanding of the elderly vulnerable group from the first chapter, this chapter provides a detailed explanation of how to provide general care and assessment for the elderly. Chapter 3: Care for Elderly Patients with Diseases, elderly diseases include common and frequently occurring diseases from internal medicine, orthopedics, gynecology, and ophthalmology/otolaryngology. The features of this textbook are to keep it concise and focused, highlighting key points. For elderly diseases that overlap with internal medicine nursing, the elderly-specific characteristics are emphasized. Additionally, since students have already mastered the nursing process in internal medicine nursing, this book focuses only on measures and health education for elderly diseases, aiming to inspire students to consciously apply the nursing process to care for elderly patients. During the writing process, the authors referred to domestic and international specialized books and textbooks on elderly care, selecting useful parts based on China's conditions to achieve practicality. This textbook is suitable for undergraduate nursing students. Due to its progressive difficulty and adaptability to the learning needs of different levels, it can also be used by college students and clinical nursing workers, as well as serving as a reference for nursing professionals.
