Features: This series of teaching materials won the Excellent Topic Award of the 4th "National Excellent Educational Audio-Visual Products Award." Based on the SoundBytes series textbooks written by Longman Publishing Company specifically for English learners in Asia, this teacher's manual is adapted from the series in accordance with the basic requirements of the "English Curriculum Standards" (Experimental Draft) issued by the Ministry of Education in July 2001. It is suitable for teachers to teach students how to learn listening. This series of teaching materials consists of three parts: student books, teacher's manuals, and audio cassettes. It highlights three distinctive features:
1. Thematic teaching design. The listening materials include 24 units, each designed around different topics, with content derived from students' daily lives. The topics are trendy, featuring a host throughout. The listening exercises are lively and engaging. The listening materials are recorded abroad, featuring authentic American accents, diverse characters, and a strong sense of realism. Students can hear the voices of different individuals, receiving effective listening training.
2. Aligns with task-based teaching requirements. The main teaching unit design focuses on themes, with each unit covering a specific topic. Each topic is developed from five aspects: preview, listening exercises, expert explanations, listening tips, and expression practice. Through live radio broadcasts of SoundBytes, it creates a real interactive format with listeners, guiding students to achieve task goals through perception, experience, practice, participation, or collaboration. To regularly assess listening performance, this series also includes several mock high-stakes exam questions.
3. Two learning approaches: From low to high, interpreting linguistic elements step by step; from high to low, directly listening to the meaning of the context and understanding background knowledge. Ultimately, listening aims to improve and develop speaking and listening skills.
