Don Quixote

Author: Miguel de Cervantes
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2000-11-01
Features: This book is a heartbreaking story; the more it amuses, the sadder it becomes. The hero is one who upholds justice, and his sole purpose is to defeat the villains. It is these virtues that drove him mad. The great French writer Victor Hugo wrote, "Cervantes' creation is so skillful, it is seamless; the hero and Sancho, riding their respective animals, are one, both comical and tragic, deeply moving..." Russian critic G.V. Belinsky said: "Among all the famous literary works in Europe, there is no better example of blending seriousness with humor, tragedy with drama, the trivial and vulgar with greatness and beauty... Such an example is found in Cervantes' Don Quixote."
