Huang Yuanyu, styled Kanzai, styled Yanxue, and alias Yujiaozi, was a native of Changyi, Shandong. Born in 1705 and died in 1758, he was a renowned physician during the Qianlong era of the Qing Dynasty, serving as the court physician of the Qing imperial family and hailed as the "Medicine Master of the Generation." His works were the result of over 20 years of studying classical medical texts. In the books, he reorganized and revised the Suwen, Lingshu, Nanjing, Shanghan, and Jinji, providing paragraph-by-paragraph interpretations and elucidating the subtle meanings of the classics. His insights were particularly notable in areas such as the correspondence between heaven and humanity, the theory of yin and yang and the five elements, the meridians and acupoints, the pulse diagnosis for diseases, the theory of qi and blood, and the method of "clearing the south and nourishing the north." In clinical practice, Huang Yuanyu was proficient in the five movements, had a deep understanding of the viscera, was skilled in pulse diagnosis, prescribed formulas and herbs with precision, and achieved high efficacy. He was honored with an inscribed plaque titled "Wonderful Understanding of Qi and Huang" by Emperor Qianlong. In addition to the 11 medical works of Huang Yuanyu, the Complete Medical Works of Huang Yuanyu also includes an article titled "Research on the Academic Thought of Huang Yuanyu," written by the editor of this book, spanning tens of thousands of words. It serves as a valuable reference for modern and future scholars to study Huang Yuanyu's medical contributions, academic thought, clinical techniques, and scholarly attitude.
