1. The China Economic and Trade Yearbook (2003) (hereinafter referred to as the Yearbook), under the administration and sponsorship of the State Economic and Trade Commission (SETC), was compiled by the Editorial Committee of the Yearbook. Li Rongrong, Director of the SETC, served as the Chairman of the Editorial Committee and Editor-in-Chief.
2. This Yearbook is a comprehensive and authoritative reference book and annual publication that provides detailed coverage and objective evaluation of China's economic and trade performance in 2002, as well as the reform and development of major industries and enterprises. It serves as a valuable resource for understanding and mastering the achievements of China's economic and trade reform and development, guiding the work of the following year.
3. The Yearbook integrates policy, practicality, guidance, and informational value, striving to showcase regional economic characteristics and highlight industry-specific features. It features detailed data and rich content. The target readership primarily includes: (1) the national economic and trade system and relevant industry management departments; (2) production and trade enterprises; (3) research institutions, libraries, and data centers.
4. The Yearbook consists of eight sections.
Section 1: Important Economic Documents. It includes speeches and reports by Wu Bangguo and Li Rongrong at the National Economic and Trade Conference.
Section 2: Special Articles. It features analyses and comments by leaders of the State Council, the SETC, and renowned economists on the trends of China's economic and trade reform and development.
Section 3: Economic Performance and Enterprise Reform and Development Report. It provides analyses and evaluations of China's economic and trade performance and enterprise reform and development in 2001 by 20 divisions of the SETC and relevant ministries and commissions.
Section 4: Industry Reform and Development Report. It covers the economic performance of 14 industries in 2001 and related statistical data.
Section 5: Economic and Trade Development Overview of Provinces, Municipalities, and Autonomous Regions. It invites the economic and trade commissions (or commissions of commerce) of 31 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities, the Xinjiang Production and Construction Corps, five planned single-track cities, and 10 sub-provincial cities to provide evaluations of their regional economic and trade development and enterprise reform and development. Data is provided by the National Bureau of Statistics, with 11 key economic indicators listed for each province, autonomous region, or municipality.
Section 6: Introduction to Key (Backbone) Enterprises. It presents over 100 key (backbone) enterprises in a (visual and textual) format, showcasing their business and development status.
Section 7: China Economic and Trade Statistical Data. It selects macroeconomic statistical data closely related to economic and trade activities. It focuses on the production and operational indicators of all state-owned enterprises and non-state-owned enterprises with annual sales revenue exceeding 50 million yuan in 2001. To better meet reader needs, the data in this section has been adjusted based on the 2001 edition.
Section 8: Appendices. It includes changes in leadership and organizational structure of the SETC, an annual chronology of major events, a concise overview of major macroeconomic events in China, and rankings of business performance in retail, catering, chain stores, material supply, and electronic information industries, as well as rankings of foreign trade import/export enterprises, foreign-invested enterprises, and self-export production enterprises.
5. The national statistical data covered in this Yearbook excludes Hong Kong, Macao, and Taiwan. The statistical data in Sections 5 and 7 is primarily provided by the National Bureau of Statistics. Due to differences in statistical methodologies, if there are discrepancies between industry or regional data in these two sections and the data from the National Bureau of Statistics, the latter shall prevail.
