The book is divided into two parts. The first part consists of five chapters, starting from the relationship between ecological and environmental crises and water resources, it discusses the significant importance of ecological and environmental water demand research in theory and practice. It systematically studies and elaborates on the concept and characteristics of ecological and environmental water demand, especially exploring beneficial methods for calculating ecological and environmental water demand based on the fundamental principles of ecosystem ecology. The second part includes four chapters, with case studies as its main feature. Applying the theories and methods discussed in the first part, it conducts an in-depth study on the ecological and environmental water demand in the Huaihai region. Based on the structural and functional characteristics of different types of ecosystems such as rivers, lakes, wetlands, drylands, and urban areas, it calculates the ecological and environmental water demand of the study area. Additionally, it analyzes the patterns of ecological and environmental water demand in different scenarios and predicts the ecological and environmental water demand at different levels of years. Finally, it analyzes the value of ecological and environmental water demand shortage losses in the study area based on the research results.
