Features: The crossword puzzles consist of two main parts: one is variously shaped patterns composed of blank spaces (usually square, but also circular, triangular, or diamond-shaped), and the other is clue text. Solvers must use the clue text to find appropriate words, phrases, or sentences to fill the designated spaces, ensuring that they connect vertically and horizontally to form a complete whole. The difficulty of creating a crossword puzzle depends on the complexity of the pattern formed by the blank spaces. Most of the puzzles in this book were newly created by the author between 2000 and 2003, incorporating many newly coined words and phrases such as "SARS," "The Fifth Season," "Yao Ming," "The Lord of the Rings," and "The Dead Secret" (), which were just emerging at the time of compilation. In the year-themed puzzles, all 11 years up to 2010 have been completed. The author hopes these approaches will give the book a stronger sense of contemporary relevance and foresight, ensuring it remains up-to-date at least until 2010.
