Features: The Two Mrs. Wards depicts a true story. It is based on the event in 1955 where William Woodward, a millionaire, was shot by his wife. Besides exposing the extravagant and dissolute life of the American upper class, it also focuses on their hypocritical mentality. In order to protect the interests of their class, they could even endure the concealment of a criminal who had killed their own family members. As one insider in the book said, "The wealthy families did not want outsiders getting close to them. They would rather let the murderer go free than have their family secrets exposed in the newspapers." This book caused a sensation after its publication in the United States.
