This dictionary includes over 20,000 entries, and the selection criteria are: to prioritize words with high frequency of use in daily life as much as possible, while rarely including or explaining uncommon words and their rarely used meanings. In terms of word selection, this dictionary emphasizes the following features: 1. It includes a large number of new words. Due to the development of the times, many new words have emerged in English and American languages, such as satellite positioning, the Internet, etc. We have included as many common new words as possible. 2. It specially includes some common professional terms. In the past, only large-scale professional reference books included professional terms. However, with the development of media and the popularization of knowledge, many professional terms have entered ordinary people's lives and frequently appear in newspapers and magazines, such as "gene," "nano," etc. This dictionary also pays attention to including such terms. 3. It focuses on including colloquialisms and idioms. Some colloquial or slang expressions in English are often considered inappropriate for formal contexts and are not included in other English-Chinese dictionaries. Although this dictionary is small, it has made some attempts in this regard to meet the needs of different readers. 4. It appropriately includes some proper nouns. During the compilation of this dictionary, we referred to many dictionaries and materials. Due to space limitations, we are not listing them all here.
