Shuowen Jiezi Notes

Author: [Han] Xu Shen
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-01-01
Features: The Shuowen Jiezi by Xu Shen of the Eastern Han Dynasty and the Shuowen Jiezi Zhu by Duan Yucai of the Qing Dynasty are two monumental works that successively shine in the history of Chinese linguistics. They are not only essential classics for scholars of textual studies but also frequently consulted reference books. Since the liberation, Zhonghua Book Company and Shanghai Ancient Books Publishing House have successively published the Great Xu edition and the Duan edition of the Shuowen Jiezi, both supplemented with a Stroke Index, providing readers with excellent reading materials. However, the basic index is organized by stroke order, and characters with the same number of strokes are arranged according to the 540 radicals of the Shuowen Jiezi. This still makes it inconvenient for readers to use. To address this, we have compiled this Four-Corner Number Index for the Shuowen Jiezi (abbreviated as Index) for searching both books. In addition to the main text, this book also includes the postscript to the Shuowen Jiezi Zhu by Jiang Yuan, the postscript to the Shuowen Jiezi Zhu by Chen Huan, the preface by Yu Wenzhao, the Shuowen Jiezi Zhu by Duan Yucai, and the Six-Character Sound and Pitch Table by Duan Yucai.
