History of Chinese Literature

Author: Hu Shih
Publisher:
Publish Date: 1999-10-01
Features: This book was originally a lithographed edition of the lecture notes used by Hu Shih when he taught the course "History of National Language Literature" at the 3rd National Language Institute organized by the Ministry of Education. The book covers from the Han, Wei, and Six Dynasties period to the Southern Song Dynasty, without a beginning or an end, only the middle section of literary history. It can be divided into three parts: the popular literature of the Han, Wei, and Six Dynasties period, the colloquialization of Tang Dynasty literature, and the colloquial literature of the two Song Dynasties. It complements and references Hu Shih's "History of Colloquial Literature," forming a complete history of Chinese literature in Hu Shih's writing.
