Features: Igor Feodorovich Stravinsky (1882-1971) was a Russian-American composer. Originally trained in law, he later studied music as a hobby under Rimsky-Korsakov and eventually became a true leader of the modern music movement. Throughout his life, he traveled to many important cities in Europe, America, Africa, and Australia. Stravinsky's compositions were multi-stylistic. In his early period, his music had a Russian national style and showed a preference for unusual instrumental colors, rhythms, harsh forces, and passion. In the middle period, his music was clear, concise, simple, and clear, belonging to the neoclassical school. One of his works from this period is the ballet Pulcinella, which premiered at the Paris Opera in 1920, with sets and costumes designed by the famous painter Picasso. In 1922, the author revised this work into a suite with the same name, which was a mixed piece reflecting his fascination with 18th-century music. In his later period, he criticized the twelve-tone system, but the serial composition techniques pioneered by Schoenberg and others reappeared in his works. The music for the ballet The Rite of Spring was originally written by Stravinsky for Balanchine, but Kranco's choreography was more dramatic and musical than Balanchine's interpretation.
