Features: Jin Shangyi was born in Jiaozuo City, Henan Province, China in 1934. He graduated from the Oil Painting Department of the Central Academy of Fine Arts in 1953 and completed his postgraduate studies in oil painting with outstanding results in 1957. He has been employed by the Central Academy of Fine Arts ever since. Since 1958, his oil paintings have continuously participated in national fine arts exhibitions, and he has created numerous historical paintings, which have been collected by revolutionary history museums. After 1980, as the director and professor of the Oil Painting Workshop at the Central Academy of Fine Arts, he has nurtured many talents with his rich experience. At the same time, his numerous portrait works have had a broad social impact and have been hailed by critics as a representative painter of contemporary Chinese oil painting. In the early 1980s, he was invited to teach at the Department of East Asian Art at the City University of New York in the United States and visited and conducted research in various art museums in the U.S. and Europe. In his works after the 1980s, he combined traditional Chinese aesthetic concepts with European classical oil painting techniques, forming a distinctive personal style. Many of his works have been collected by museums such as the National Art Museum of China, and he has published several personal art books. His works, including Tajik Bride, Young Singer, Qu Qiubai, Portrait of a Doctor, Portrait of a Painter, and Late Years of Huang Binhong, have become representative works of contemporary Chinese oil painting and have been widely disseminated. In 1983, he served as the vice president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts, and since 1987, he has been the president of the Central Academy of Fine Arts. In terms of art education, he is not only a rigorous and highly skilled professor but also promotes the development of Chinese art education with his modern art education philosophy and social prestige. The Central Academy of Fine Arts, under his leadership, has become a center and model for the development of higher art education in China in terms of reforming its curriculum structure, establishing new majors, and advancing academic development. He is also a member of the Party Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, a vice chairman of the National Art Education Committee of China, a vice chairman of the All-China Federation of Literary and Art Circles, and the president of the Chinese Artists Association.
