Features: One of the important contents of Song Qingling's life and work was her extensive correspondence with friends and family both at home and abroad. Amidst her busy schedule, she would squeeze in time to write letters, sometimes writing over ten letters in a single day, until her fingers became stiff and painful before setting down her pen. She rarely had her secretaries write her letters; most were written in English by her own hand or typed. In her later years, plagued by illness, letters became a form of self-consolation and pain relief for her. In the midst of unbearable pain at night, she would sometimes rise, dressed in her nightgown, to write to her friends. Her letters are an important historical legacy for us, a valuable spiritual treasure. In 1999, the two volumes of Song Qingling's Correspondence were published, collecting over 900 letters from Song Qingling, nearly one million words in total, and received widespread praise from readers and scholars alike. The letters collected in this book are primarily private correspondence written by Song Qingling to her close friends, Luo Mengxing and Wang Anna. To some extent, these letters more genuinely and frankly express her thoughts and emotions, reflecting, from one perspective, the glorious life she led.
