Six-year-old child with swollen tonsils

Patient's question:

A six-year-old boy. He snorts in his sleep at night.

Doctor's answer:

For tonsillitis that occurs four or more times a year; tonsillitis with three or more episodes per year within two years; upper respiratory tract obstruction caused by swollen tonsils, leading to severe snoring, difficulty swallowing, and unclear speech; one or more episodes of tonsillar abscess; tonsils causing systemic diseases and becoming focal tonsils; or recurrent tonsillitis leading to repeated or persistent cases of rhinitis, otitis media, tracheitis, etc., tonsillectomy is necessary. It is recommended to first undergo active treatment. If there is no improvement, surgery to remove the tonsils can be considered.
