Infant congenital heart disease

Patient's question:

Not currently experiencing symptoms, always sleeping, abnormal skin color, Jinan.

Doctor's answer:

Congenital heart disease is generally not self-healing and requires surgical or interventional methods for. However, for ventricular septal defects (VSDs) or atrial septal defects (ASDs) with a defect diameter smaller than 0.5 cm, treatment may not be necessary, as they do not adversely affect the child's heart function or growth and development. But since the child has a heart murmur, it may have some impact on future education, employment, and marriage. As surgical techniques are now very mature, some parents still choose surgery due to these social factors. Additionally, some small defects, such as subaortic ventricular septal defects, which are close to the aortic valve and smaller than 0.5 cm, also require active surgical treatment. For children with defect diameters larger than 0.5 cm, surgical treatment is recommended.
