Patient's question:
My child is now one year and one month old. When he was 11 months old, he just started walking. Once, he accidentally fell and I picked him up. He cried for about 2 minutes, then his hands and feet started twitching, his eyes rolled back, and it lasted for about 1 minute before we took him to the hospital. At the hospital, they did a brain CT, and the doctor said it was nothing, possibly just a scare. It has been about 2 and a half months since then. Yesterday, I took him out riding a bike, and on the way home, he started crying. So I went back home, and he was still crying. A while later, it was just like the last time. Today, we had an EEG, and it didn’t show any major problems. Could you please advise the doctor?Doctor's answer:
It may be caused by epilepsy and requires tests such as an electroencephalogram (EEG) and brain CT. Medications such as phenobarbital, diazepam, and sodium amobarbital may be prescribed orally. If the effect is not good, minimally invasive surgery may be performed at the hospital. Generally, Western medicine should not be changed, discontinued, or stopped arbitrarily. Only after the epilepsy has been completely controlled for 2-3 years and the EEG is normal can the dosage be gradually reduced and the medication stopped.
