Features: The short but brilliant life of the former Soviet heroes, Zoya and Shura, who were once household names in China. Zoya and Shura were siblings who attended the same class in primary and secondary school, receiving formal education. After the outbreak of the Great Patriotic War, the siblings joined the army one after the other. Zoya, while on a mission, was captured and, despite her bravery, was executed. Shura, meanwhile, fought on the battlefield, driving tanks forward and earning numerous medals for his heroism. He was also martyred in the battle for K?nigsberg. This book is based on real events, and the author, Kosmodemyanskaya, is the mother of Zoya and Shura. It is a book introducing the young heroes of the Soviet Great Patriotic War. Zoya and Shura were born into an ordinary working-class family in the Soviet Union in the 1920s. Under their parents' devoted upbringing, the siblings developed many fine qualities from a young age: respect for elders, a willingness to help others, diligence in studies, active participation in labor, a love for life, and a wide range of interests. In 1941, when German fascists treacherously invaded the Soviet Union, Zoya, who was in her ninth grade of secondary school, bid farewell to her mother and voluntarily joined the partisans, taking up the task of defending her homeland. After a short training period, she and her comrades went deep into enemy-occupied areas to plant landmines and burn enemy camps, demonstrating great ingenuity and courage. On one day in September 1941, she was unfortunately captured while burning the enemy's stables. The brutal Germans subjected Zoya to various tortures and humiliations: prolonged interrogation, forcing her to run barefoot in the snow in just a thin garment. With unyielding strength, Zoya endured all inhuman torment, refused to answer the Germans' questions, and never revealed any secrets of the partisan detachment. Failing to gain anything, the enemy, filled with rage, executed Zoya. Shura, who had always shared a deep bond with his sister, entered the Ulyanovsk Tank School after Zoya's sacrifice, determined to avenge her. Soon after, he drove his tank to the front, commanding soldiers to fight bravely. On the battlefield, he remained calm and courageous, performing outstandingly and earning numerous accolades, including the Gold Medal of the Great Patriotic War and the Red Banner Medal. Later, in April 1945, just before the victory in World War II, he was tragically killed in action while commanding his troops.
