Her outstanding achievements in architecture have also been a topic of continuous research. This book is dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Lin Huiyin, an outstanding female architect, educator, and poet of 20th-century China.
In her youth, Lin Huiyin was nurtured by a scholarly family, absorbing the essence of traditional Chinese culture. Her father, Lin Changmin, was an open-minded individual who sent his cherished daughter to a missionary school, enabling her to encounter Western culture and master a fluent English. At the age of sixteen, in the bloom of her youth, she accompanied her father to Britain and traveled across Europe, broadening her horizons with a sense of freedom.
When Lin Huiyin entered society, it was an era of brilliant literary figures in China. The passionate and independent personalities of several writers nurtured, supported, and shaped her, fostering her love for life and freedom. She freely expressed herself through various literary forms and could think and write in both Chinese and English. She acknowledged that she had been raised in a dual cultural environment, where English became an intrinsic mode of thought and expression, a sense of aesthetics, and a complete cultural world for her. The collision and fusion of Eastern and Western cultures created a "cultural Lin Huiyin." She was a poet, an architect, but not entirely a poet or entirely an architect, because she was a multifaceted "cultural Lin Huiyin." With perfect emotions and character, as well as rich knowledge and experience, she brought her creative talents to bear in the cultural field.
